Forty people were arrested yesterday evening in Paris for setting off smoke bombs and fireworks from the Trocadéro esplanade , near the Eiffel Tower, the police prefecture reported.

“On Saturday, around 8:50 p.m., police officers detected from surveillance camera footage that a group of people were using smoke bombs and fireworks in Place de Varsovie and on the Trocadéro esplanade” in the 16th arrondissement, west of Paris , the police prefecture said.

The officers "immediately went to the scene and made 40 arrests," the same source added, announcing that an investigation had been opened.
