Huw Edwards, the leading news anchor for the British BBC for years, has pleaded guilty to possession and dissemination of child pornography images.
The journalist - who among other things on 8 September 2022 gave the world the historic news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II after 70 years of reign - last year was overwhelmed by a scandal initially presented as a possible relationship story gay with younger partners cultivated behind his wife's back.
Today he appeared before a judge at Westminster Magistrates' Court for a preliminary hearing, after Crown Prosecution Service investigators gave the green light to his pedophile trial. Edwards, 62, was indicted for taking and storing "indecent images of children" (meaning minors).
The police announced that the photos date back to a period between 2020 and 2022 and that the anchorman had been indicted since last month, after being arrested in November in absolute secrecy and released a few hours later, after an interrogation, following the payment of bail.
Edwards had self-suspended himself from the video as early as 2023, and last April he formalized his resignation from the BBC, after a 40-year career.
