More than twenty thousand people, including residents and tourists, have been evacuated from the northern Bassin d'Arcachon, one of the most picturesque and visited areas of France in the southwest of the country, which has been devastated by fires.

During a press briefing, the prefect of Gironde and Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Sophie Brocas, specified that "the conditions on site remain unfavorable with winds blowing in the wrong direction."

After evacuating campsites, hotels, and homes, authorities set up shelters in nine local municipalities. The flames have so far burned approximately 2,500 hectares of land.
