There is still alarm near the Ukrainian nuclear power plant of Zaporizhzhia , where some bombs have fallen , as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) writes on its website, a few meters away from the reactors .
"Even if there was no direct impact on the plant's main nuclear safety systems, the bombings came dangerously close to them," the agency explained, quoting the words of director general Rafael Grossi .
"We're talking about meters, not kilometers," adds Grossi, underlining that the explosions were among the most intense in recent months .
Zaporizhzhia is Europe's largest nuclear power plant and has been under Russian control since March, although its operation remains a Ukrainian responsibility with staff in Kiev on site to operate the plant. And since March, the site has repeatedly been the target of bombings. Each time the cross accusations have started punctually , just as the alarm has been systematically raised in the international community which warns against the nightmare nuclear accident: dangerous for everyone as well as a "passage" in the context of the conflict from which it would also be politically difficult come back.
Here then is the IAEA once again warning: « Whoever is behind us must stop immediately . You are playing with fire », the words of Rafael Grossi.
In Ukraine only yesterday the Russian army bombed the east of the country "400 times", explains Zelensky. «The fiercest battles – continues the president – are underway in the Donetsk region. In the south of the country we are maintaining the defense, we are consistently and calculatedly destroying the potential of the occupiers".
