They allegedly drugged several foreign climbers and tricked them into requesting helicopter rescue, orchestrating a massive insurance scam worth approximately 20 million euros.

This is what emerged from an investigation by Nepalese police, reported by several international media outlets, including the New York Post and The Independent. The fraud, which has already led to 11 arrests, is believed to have involved approximately 4,782 foreign climbers between 2022 and 2025.

Investigators speak of over 300 alleged fake rescues, with inflated invoices totaling nearly 20 million euros, charged to both climbers and insurance companies.
