European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presented her government team.
There are six executive vice-presidencies proposed for the new Commission, one of which will go to Raffaele Fitto , current Minister for European Affairs and the PNRR in the Meloni Government, who has been assigned the delegation for Cohesion and Reforms.
The other five executive vice-presidencies go to Teresa Ribera of Spain, Henna Virkkunen of Finland, Stéphane Séjourné of France, Kaja Kallas of Estonia and Roxana Minzatu of Romania.
As for the Commissioners, here are the delegations assigned by Von der Leyen:
- Maroš Šefčovič (Slovakia): Commissioner for Trade
- Andrius Kubilius (Lithuania): Commissioner for Defence and Space
- Piotr Serafin (Poland): Commissioner for Budget
- Magnus Brunner (Austria): Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration
- Wopke Hoekstre (Netherlands), Commissioner for Climate
- Oliver Varhelyi (Hungary): Commissioner for Animal Health and Welfare
- Valdis Dombrovskis (Latvia): Commissioner for Economy and Simplification
- Dan Jorgensen (Denmark): Commissioner for Energy
- Apostolos Tzitzikostas (Greece): Transport Commissioner
- Christophe Hansen (Denmark): Commissioner for Agriculture
- Michael McGrath (Ireland): Commissioner for Justice and the Rule of Law
"The Commissioners represent the Commission and Europe, not individual countries. And that applies to everyone," Von der Leyen commented as she introduced the team.
Regarding Fitto's appointment, "Italy is a very important country", said the Commission President, adding that "Fitto will be responsible for cohesion policy, regional development and cities and will bring his great experience to modernise and strengthen investments for cohesion and growth policies".
