A Flydubai airliner (FZ 1073) flying from Dubai to Tel Aviv reported an emergency this morning, briefly transmitting a hijacking code , descended to a suspicious altitude, and diverted to Saudi Arabia, several Israeli media reported.
Two Israeli Air Force fighter jets were scrambled.
According to flight tracking data reported by FlightRadar and cited by the Times of Israel, the plane initially transmitted the transponder code 7700, an international distress signal. There were approximately 150 passengers on board .
According to the latest information, the flight is expected to land in Saudi Arabia. Israeli media reports that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz are convening an urgent security meeting.
