A 12-year-old boy was rescued from rubble in the state of La Guaira late Monday evening, five days after the earthquake that struck Venezuela . An Ecuadorian search and rescue team reported in a statement: " After hours of work, we managed to extract Carlos, a 12-year-old boy, alive from the rubble, who was trapped under debris in the Macuto sector of La Guaira." The news was also reported by CNN, which published video from Quito firefighters showing rescuers freeing the boy and carrying him away on a stretcher.

Meanwhile, the death toll has risen to 1,719. The number of injured has also been updated, rising to 5,304, while a total of 15,866 people were directly affected by the earthquake, according to the latest official report. Regarding housing, Venezuelan authorities report 855 buildings damaged, of which 189 completely collapsed and 666 were partially collapsed or severely damaged.

In the context of the emergency and crisis, the government reports that 10,834 volunteers are providing assistance to victims and rescuers , and that 50 temporary camps have been set up in Caracas and Miranda. In total, the government says, 75,238 families have been assisted with water, food, and medical care. It also reports that 90% of electricity service has been restored in the state of Guaira, the hardest hit by the earthquake.
