Donald Trump's administration could extend the July deadline when higher tariffs on imports from dozens of countries will take effect.

White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said: “It could be extended, but that’s a decision for the president to make,” she said at a briefing.

The July 9 deadline for the trade deal “is not critical,” he said. “The president can simply offer a deal to these countries if they refuse to sign one with us by the deadline,” Leavitt said, “and that means the president can choose a reciprocal tariff rate that he thinks is beneficial to the United States and American workers.”
