He was driving under the influence – on the streets of Monaco – aboard a scooter . Thus the Slovakian champion Peter Sagan , three times world champion in cycling, was sentenced to three months in prison with suspended sentence and to the suspension of his license for the same period for driving a scooter while intoxicated in Monaco.

The facts date back to last May. Sagan, seven times winner of the green jersey at the Tour de France (which will start on Saturday and in which the champion will participate for the last time), appeared on June 20 before the criminal court of Monaco, where he resides.

Sagan had been pulled over by police for his dangerous driving . The alcohol test then revealed a rate of 1.46 milligrams of alcohol per liter of air. The Slovakian champion had explained to the police that he went to bed at 3 in the morning, after frequenting some nightclubs. His defense had then indicated as the cause of the outcome of the test the jet lag and the state of fatigue deriving from the arrival, immediately before that night at the premises, from the United States.
