A drone with a detonator was found next to a Ukrainian transport plane at Leipzig Airport and was seized.

According to security officials, the aircraft was carrying explosives, but they did not detonate. Leipzig is the main German port of call for flights to Ukraine.

According to Bild, which first reported the news, the drone was spotted at 11:40 PM near a Ukrainian Antonov. The flying object was carrying explosive material with a detonator , as later confirmed by investigations and tests that tested positive for nitrate.

The device failed to explode because the fuse was defective, the tabloid continues, publishing exclusive images on its portal. The trigger had apparently been previously "ripped off," Bild reports, and was later removed by the federal police.

The object will not be detonated, so that any traces can be investigated. The inspections will be carried out by Saxony's security agencies as well as NATO investigators. The airport was closed to air traffic until 1:55 a.m. A plane from Mallorca was hijacked and was only able to land in the Saxon town at 3:35 a.m.

Furthermore, according to what emerged in the following hours, a DHL plane had a collision at 400 meters with an unidentified object late yesterday evening in the skies above the same German city.

The aircraft then landed safely in Hannover, where damage was detected to the front end.

It's unclear whether the incidents are related. The federal government, at a press conference, announced that "investigations are ongoing." One possibility is that it was a drone: the airport's anti-drone defense system had identified two.
