Cuba, Biden revokes some restrictions of the Trump era. Havana: "Limited pace, little change"
Relaxation on visa policy and resumption of family reunification. Still too little for CubaJoe Biden (Ansa)
Joe Biden revokes Donald Trump 's squeeze on Cuba , "making it easier for families to visit relatives" on the Caribbean island and "for licensed American travelers to have relationships with the Cuban people, attend meetings and conduct research."
The US State Department also announced a series of measures to support the Cuban people , including the reintroduction of the family reunification program and the strengthening of consular services, including visas.
Also removed the ceiling of one thousand dollars per quarter on family remittances. The Biden administration, State Department spokesman Ned Price explained, "will support remittances of donations to Cuban entrepreneurs, measures that aim to further strengthen families in mutual support and allow entrepreneurs to expand their businesses" .
Havana speaks of a step "in the right direction", but " limited ". "The decision - observes Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez - does not modify the embargo, the fraudulent inclusion in the list of countries that sponsor terrorism or the majority of Trump's coercive measures of maximum pressure that still affect the Cuban people".
All this, he concludes, "confirms that neither the objectives nor the main instruments of the United States' bankruptcy policy against Cuba have changed".
