The Africa Cup of Nations match between Cameroon and the Comoros Islands turns into a tragedy.

The Olembe stadium in the Cameroonian capital Yaounde was in fact stormed by fans well over the capacity of 60 thousand spectators (among other things reduced to 80% due to Covid) and at least 8 people would have died in the crowd.

According to the latest information, a crowd would have gathered in front of the southern entrance of the stadium, when the structure had already run out of seats. "Eight deaths were recorded, two women in their thirties, four men in their thirties, a child, a person taken away from the family", reports a report from the Cameroonian Ministry of Health.

About 50 people were also injured in the crowd, two of them with multiple injuries and two others with severe head injuries, the ministry added.

It has long been known that Cameroon's stadiums would not be adequate to host major matches, so much so that in 2019 the country should have hosted the Africa Cup of Nations but the event was transferred to Egypt.
