Jessica Moretti, owner of the Constellation, may be entitled to daily compensation for "loss of earnings caused by damage to her health" following the New Year's Eve fire at her nightclub in Crans-Montana. The claim, under Swiss law on accidents at work, is being examined by the insurance company, which, in a letter included in the investigation file, requested the Valais prosecutor's office to authorize the possible payment, which has been granted.
The woman and her husband, Jacques, are the main suspects in the investigation into the fire, which killed 41 people and injured 115. Jessica is under a precautionary measure requiring her to sign in and must remain in her home in Lens. Her husband has been in prison since August 11th on charges of beating her and will remain there, according to a court order, until at least November 11th.
A report from the cantonal police, charged with monitoring compliance with the restrictions, states that the woman expressed "fears" in view of the end-of-year holidays and the anniversary of the fire, "believing that the media will be active on this matter again" and fearing "possible isolated actions by relatives of the victims."
