"Only so many falsehoods have been told against us, we have been destroyed," Jessica Moretti said, making a spontaneous statement at the opening of her interrogation in Sion regarding the New Year's Eve massacre in Crans-Montana , which caused the death of 41 people.
Present at the questioning were the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Canton of Valais, Catherine Seppey, and around seventy lawyers representing the civil parties. The woman was questioned in a confrontation with her husband, Jacques Moretti, as part of the investigation into the fire at the Constellation, the nightclub in Crans-Montana they own.
The entrepreneur assured her intention to cooperate with investigators and emphasized that she has always answered questions. She also expressed "sorry" for the attack she and her husband, Jacques, suffered on February 12th by a group of the victims' parents. "We are willing to meet with the families, if they wish," she assured, revealing that she had written a letter to the families, but details were not provided.
During the interrogation, she was further charged with forgery of documents. The charges relate to a 2015 invoice for the purchase of sound-absorbing foam, which had been used to cover the ceiling of the venue and which caused the fire that killed 41 people on New Year's Eve .
The mother of one of the victims, present today at the couple's questioning, immediately responded to the businesswoman: "Being destroyed, devastated means not being able to hug your children or having to care for them in the hospital—that means being destroyed! I don't think being investigated for a tragedy means experiencing destruction: when you can return home, work alongside your husband, and be able to hug your children every morning, that's not being devastated ," said Laetitia Brodard-Sitre, mother of Arthur, the 16-year-old who died in the Constellation fire .
