A passenger's laptop caught fire on an American Airlines flight from Atlanta, Georgia, to Dallas, Texas.

The BBC reports. The pilot reported a "cabin fire at the rear of the plane" to air traffic control, saying that flight attendants were trying to put it out.

“I think there are about four or five passengers burned by the laptop,” he added.

After landing at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport in Texas, the plane taxied to the gate, and emergency personnel greeted the aircraft upon arrival, as per procedure. One passenger received medical care on the spot.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) warns that lithium batteries, including those in laptop computers, can overheat “due to several factors, including damage, exposure to water, overcharging, or improper packaging.”

The FAA has recorded 58 verified incidents involving lithium batteries since the beginning of the year, involving smoke, fire, or extreme heat.
