The two ships involved in the collision this morning in the North Sea, off the coast of Britain, were a Swedish oil tanker - but flying the US flag - and a German merchant ship .

British media reported this, citing initial information available. The tanker belongs to Stena Bulk, a shipping company based in Sweden, and had been leased by Crowley, an American shipping company based in San Francisco.

While the merchant vessel involved is called “So Long” and is owned by Reederei Köpping, a shipowner and freight forwarder with headquarters in the Kiel Fjord, Germany.
