Taiwan's Defense Ministry has in fact reported in a statement that it has detected a jet and three Chinese military ships in the waters around the island in the last 24 hours, precisely on the day of the meeting between Tsai Ing-wen, the Speaker of the US Chamber.

The same ministry, late Wednesday evening said that the Chinese aircraft carrier Shandong crossed the Bashi Channel and the waters southeast of Taiwan, demonstrating - according to the Beijing media - that it was "completely ready for operations in the open sea and to safeguard China's national sovereignty and territorial integrity" .
