With the vote of Judge Carmen Lúcia, the First Section of the Brazilian Supreme Court reached the majority to convict former President Jair Bolsonaro of attempted coup d'état, violent abolition of the rule of law, criminal association, damage to public property and deterioration of restricted assets .
Lúcia spoke of "indisputable evidence" against the former head of state, who, according to the Prosecutor's Office, orchestrated a "progressive and systematic" plan to undermine the institutions after the 2022 elections . The judge's vote joined those of Alexandre de Moraes and Flávio Dino, bringing the tally to 3-1. Only Cristiano Zanin's vote is missing, but the majority is already assured . The only person to support acquittal was Luiz Fux, yesterday, who spoke of "non-existent evidence."
Tomorrow the Court will decide the sentences: Bolsonaro risks up to 43 years in prison along with seven other former ministers and high-ranking officials of the Armed Forces .
