Bloody attack in New York: the victim is Davide Giri, 30, an Italian researcher at Columbia University, stabbed to death not far from the university campus, while returning from a football match. Giri was studying for a doctorate in computer science after graduating from the Polytechnic of Turin.
According to reports, Giri - a native of Alba - was killed around 11 pm at 123rd Street and Amsterdam Avenue, near Morningside Park.
The killer is a 25-year-old, stopped by the police in Central Park. This is Vincent Pinkney, a resident of Queens and appears to be affiliated with the Every Body Killer gang. Since 2012, local media reports, he has already been arrested at least 11 times for robberies and other crimes. Shortly after attacking Giri, the 25-year-old also stabbed another Italian, a 27-year-old who was in the Big Apple as a tourist.
"Davide was a brilliant and capable boy. What happened is incredible, shocking", said the mayor of Alba, Carlo Bo, after learning of Giri's death. "A violent death - he adds - which is also difficult to talk about. Who is a parent realizes this absurd tragedy; the city huddles around the pain of a truly respectable family ".
