The appeals process regarding the management of the Secretariat of State's funds, with Cardinal Angelo Becciu among the main protagonists, will reopen this fall.

The deadline for filing defense briefs expires on Monday, September 21st, while the hearing will be held on October 29th, following the order of the Vatican Court of Appeal in March of this year, which upheld the defense's objections and declared the first instance trial "relatively null" and ordered "a retrial."

In that order, the Promoter of Justice was ordered to file all the documents and records of the preliminary investigation in full.

Cardinal Becciu's lawyer, Fabio Viglione, commented to ANSA: "We are at peace, not only because we are confident in the cardinal's complete innocence, but also because we believe our legal issues are absolutely well-founded, including procedural ones."
