Attack in Brussels: two people died and several were injured in a gun attack in the center of the Belgian capital.

The shooter was a man with a Kalashnikov, who allegedly shouted "Allah akbar". According to initial information, he first hit a car, then a taxi.

It happened around 7.15pm near Place Sainctelette, between Boulevard d'Ypres and Boulevard du Ninième de ligne. Several emergency services were on site.

In the images taken by a resident of the area , the attacker can be seen wearing a fluorescent orange jacket and a white helmet, a weapon in his hand, getting on a scooter and fleeing.

The man is still on the run. He published a video on the web in which he films himself claiming to belong to ISIS and saying that he made the gesture to "avenge Muslims".

« I am a Mujahid of the Islamic State, whether you like it or not. We live for our religion and we die for this same religion ,” says the man, claiming to have killed “three Swedes just now.” The Facebook profile belonging to Slayem Slouma , on which the video in question appeared, has been removed. However, the video continues to circulate on various social platforms, including X, relaunched by users.

The victims are two Swedish fans : this evening the Belgium-Sweden football match (which has been suspended) is being played and the two were wearing shirts of the Swedish national football team.

“The police services are mobilizing to ensure security in and around our capital, in cooperation with the Minister of the Interior, Annelies Verlinden.” This was announced by the mayor of Brussels, Philippe Close , reporting that he is now at the crisis center to "ensure coordination".

“We are monitoring the situation and ask the citizens of Brussels to be vigilant,” writes the Belgian Prime Minister, Alexander De Croo, on social media.
