Steve Bannon, Donald Trump's former strategist, was found guilty of contempt of Congress for refusing to testify before the commission of inquiry into the January 6, 2021 assault on the Capitol Hill building in Washington.

The verdict was reached by the jury after three hours of deliberations.

Judge Carl Nichols has set the hearing for the sentence and the quantification of the sentence for 21 October.

From what has been learned, Bannon - who would have smiled upon reading the verdict - risks a minimum of 30 days in prison .

Bannon is the first of the former US president's entourage to be found guilty in the investigation into the assault on the US Capitol.
