After 56 years, the astronauts of the Artemis II mission have broken the record for the greatest distance from Earth previously held by the crew of the Apollo 13 mission in 1970.

On the Orion spacecraft, astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen reached the distance of 250,000 miles (400,171 kilometers) reached by Apollo 13 during its emergency reentry to Earth.

The flight schedule calls for Orion to move further away at 1:02 am Italian time, reaching 406,777 kilometers from Earth, the furthest distance from Earth ever reached by a manned space mission.
