Spanish authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Vito Quiles , a far-right activist and provocateur known for his pressure and protest against politicians and journalists, who has already been charged with hate crimes.
The state broadcaster TVE and the EFE news agency reported the arrest warrant after the activist failed to appear for several court summonses in five ongoing cases against him , in which he is accused, among other things, of alleged hate crimes, insults and slander, revealing secrets, disobedience, illegal filming, and violations of parliamentary law.
The latter had cost him access to the Spanish Congress in recent weeks for repeatedly violating the rules of the lower house. Among the most controversial incidents was when he confronted Begoña Gomez, the wife of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, as she was leaving a restaurant, preventing her from leaving and verbally attacking her .
Police officers searched for Quiles at the headquarters of the digital broadcaster Eda TV, where he works, but were unable to find him. His lawyers said he will turn himself in to a police station in the next few hours.
Meanwhile, the 'fugitive' wrote a message on his X account, stating: "A judge has ordered my arrest for a mass denunciation campaign by Sanchez's entourage after my meeting with Begoña Gomez." According to the activist, "The government uses the justice system to persecute its rivals without cause, but then they play the victim when their corruption is judged." "Not a step back," Quiles concluded in the post, without confirming whether he will turn himself in after the arrest warrant is issued.
