At least 22 states (almost half) have declared a state of emergency due to the Arctic storm currently affecting much of the United States. Approximately 140 million people, or over 40% of the US population , are under weather warnings, from New Mexico to New England.
Donald Trump has already approved the applications for Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Indiana and West Virginia.
And while the ice has also blocked airports, with nearly 12,000 flights already canceled , supermarkets have been rushed in the last few hours, with residents stocking up on water and other essential goods for fear of being stranded at home.
There are already 135,000 power outages across the country, mostly in southern states including Texas, Louisiana and New Mexico.
