Santo Domingo authorities confirmed to the Italian ambassador the death of an Italian citizen involved in a fire at a resort in the Bayahibe area. The Foreign Ministry announced the news.

The compatriot reportedly suffered a respiratory crisis while on the beach, where she had rushed with other tourists to evacuate their hotel rooms.

She lost consciousness from carbon monoxide inhalation when a billow of smoke from the fire engulfed her. She was rescued and died at the hospital.
