"Statements that downplay the contribution of NATO countries in Afghanistan are unacceptable, especially if they come from an allied nation." This was stated by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni regarding US President Donald Trump's remarks , who declared that Italy and the other member states of the Atlantic Alliance had "fallen behind" during operations in Afghanistan.
"Friendship requires respect , a fundamental condition for continuing to guarantee the solidarity that is the foundation of the Atlantic Alliance," added the Prime Minister.

Furthermore, according to a preview by Tg La7, Defense Minister Guido Crosetto will send a formal letter to the US Secretary of Defense and the NATO Secretary General on Monday, responding to US President Donald Trump's recent statements regarding the role of NATO forces in Afghanistan and the commitment of allies, "considered offensive given Italy's contribution to the Afghan mission."
