Dramatic accident in Buggenhout, East Flanders , where a school bus was hit by a train at a level crossing . Four people died: the 49-year-old bus driver, his 27-year-old chaperone, and two teenagers aged 12 and 15.

The children on the school bus attended Richtpunt Campus Buggenhout, a special education institution for students with behavioral, emotional, and autism spectrum disorders. East Flanders provincial school counselor Kurt Moens made the announcement at a press conference, expressing his condolences to the victims' families.

The exact circumstances of the accident are still being clarified, but according to initial information, the level crossing was closed at the time of the impact.

"I learned with great dismay of the tragic accident in Buggenhout. My thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones. I wish the injured much strength," wrote Minister Bernard Quintin on X.
