On May 30, the world day of multiple sclerosis is celebrated, a chronic autoimmune disease that in Sardinia has high numbers: the region is in fact one of the areas with the highest incidence and prevalence in the world.
In the north of the island, the Aou di Sassari neurological clinic represents a point of reference for at least 500 thousand people and follows about 1,500 adults.
The onset of the disease, recalled by the Aou, can occur at any age of life, “but it is most commonly diagnosed in young adults between 20 and 40 years of age, with a prevalence in women. It often causes disability and at the moment there is no definitive cure, but numerous therapies are available that modify its progress and slow down its progression ”.
