Italy won a silver medal in the World Indoor Long Jump Championships in Torum. Larissa Iapichino brought the Italian flag to the podium, placing second with 6.87m .

A result that almost leaves a bitter taste in the mouth given that the gold medal, won by the Portuguese Agata De Sousa , is only 5 centimetres further away (6.92). The bronze medal went to the Colombian Natalia Linares (6.80).

For Iapichino this is the first medal in a World Championship , a success that was by no means a foregone conclusion after the misstep at the World Championships in Tokyo.

A performance that demonstrated the talent and personality of the Tuscan athlete who, having slipped to seventh place at a certain point in the competition, managed to get back into the competition by constantly improving in the last two jumps , with a 6.82 which also earned her temporary first place.
