World guitars on the island to pay homage to Alirio Diaz

2023 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great guitarist Alirio Diaz and events will be held all over the world to pay homage to the figure of the legendary Venezuelan leader.
Sardinia too will celebrate the South American virtuoso with the Alirio Diaz International Guitar Festival, scheduled in Quartu Sant'Elena from 12 to 21 May : a variety of initiatives commissioned by the Sound Music Art Association to involve audiences of all ages with concerts, events, exhibitions, masterclasses and an art competition for middle school.
It will be an opportunity to appreciate the guitar, with its wide repertoire, promoting music as a vehicle of social inclusion and a means for the enhancement of the territory.
Now in its fifth edition, the kermesse, organized thanks to the support of the Municipality of Quartu and the Fondazione di Sardegna, aims to bring Sardinia to the center of the international panorama of classical music , hosting important world-class concert players and leading figures of the six strings, from Italy and abroad.
The best specialists from Spain, Montenegro, Germany, Venezuela and Croatia will take turns on the stage of the former Capuchin Monastery of Quartu Sant'Elena.
On Friday 12 May, at 9 pm, the inauguration is entrusted to Senio Diaz, son of the unforgettable artist celebrated by the Festival , who carries on his father's work to promote the legacy of the one who was the heir of Andrès Segovia throughout the planet .
The following day, at 7 pm, one of the brightest stars of international concertism, Edin Karamazov, also famous to the general public for having played in duo with Sting on the album "Songs from the Labyrinth" which reached the top of the European and American charts.
Sunday 14 May at 6 pm it will be the turn of Simone Onnis , artistic director of the event, considered one of the most representative Italian guitarists and the first Sardinian to perform at the Carnegie Recital Hall in New York, temple of world concertism and destination for the greatest musicians of the history.
The Festival will continue next weekend with the concerts of Gabriel Guillen Navarro, scheduled for Friday 19 May at 9 pm, to continue the following day with the Apulian virtuoso Luciano Pompilio and the long-awaited international closing, Sunday 21 May at 6 pm, entrusted at six strings by Goran Krivocapić, award-winning performer winner of the most prestigious competitions on the Five Continents and applauded in concert halls such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, the Lubkowitz Palace in Vienna, and the Conde Duque Auditorium in Madrid.
Many collateral initiatives of the Festival including the collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Kiev , articulated in a cycle of female concerts of young Ukrainian talents, the exhibition of the famous luthier Livio Lorenzatti and the exhibition of the works and awarding of the winners of the competition for young people "Alirio Diaz", created in collaboration with the Public Education Department of the Municipality of Quartu Sant'Elena and dedicated to middle school students in the city.
All concerts are free with the exception of appointments with Edin Karamazov and Goran Krivocapić.
