The closure was scheduled for today with the opening of the construction site. In the end, however, to avoid traffic congestion in Cagliari, it was decided to keep the artery open even in the start-up phase.
"In agreement with the company, it was decided to postpone the closure," says the councilor for traffic Alessio Mereu.
«In these days the technicians will carry out an investigation on the stability of the trees - the tomography - and only when the excavation is carried out will the road be closed. At that point - Mereu explains again, - we will communicate the closing day and only then will the viability change with the two-way street in via Roma», in the section between the railway station and viale Trieste, together with the new one-way streets.
When viale Trieste is closed, both residents and traders (exclusively for loading and unloading operations) will still be able to access the road.
Exactly how long this preliminary phase of the works will last is not certain. Two weeks, maybe three. "We will communicate it promptly as soon as we know," explains the commissioner.
Next week, however, via Roma will close, on the arcade side, to allow for the redevelopment work on the new sea front. But tomorrow morning a technical meeting is scheduled to decide whether or not to confirm the date of Monday 27 or postpone it by a few days.
