Among the materials used in the mid-twentieth century when Sardinian artistic craftsmanship was a model throughout Italy, there was certainly wood. Chests, chairs, tables and other furniture became valuable pieces of furniture in houses and villas. On Saturday from 10am to 1pm the Tavolara Pavilion in Sassari hosts the workshop held by the Gavoi craftsman Domenico Cugusi .
The Master from Gavo will introduce the various types of wood together with the tools for drawing the figures and for digging the material and finishing the various processes. In the wood carving laboratory, the most unknown operations of the carving profession will also be revealed, such as knowledge of the engraving techniques, the behavior of the wood subjected to cutting, the concentration of the professional and above all the handling of the very few tools necessary and the materials used .
Saturday's event is the second dedicated to Christmas, after the one on leather work, which will be followed by the one dedicated to ceramics, included within the broad activity of the "Salone delle Botteghe", whose reopening was possible thanks to the financing of the Municipality of Sassari.
«These events not only allow us to share and make known the skills of our Masters - states Marco Rau, President of Confartigianato Sassari - but also to connect the artisan culture with the community, educating people on the value and uniqueness of the products made by hand and artfully."
