The University of Cagliari also celebrates women in science.
The appointment is for tomorrow, Friday 11 February, on the occasion of the international day “Women and girls in science 2022”.
The university of the capital, in collaboration with the National Scientific Degree Plans (Pnls) of the various disciplines, has organized a series of thematic activities to encourage the orientation of female students and upper secondary school students towards scientific disciplines. The event is available online on the university's website.
“Since yesterday, the fourth and fifth grade students have participated in a series of common thematic activities differentiated by subject area”, explains Carlo Maria Carbonaro, professor at the Physics department, Head of Orientation at the Faculty of Sciences.
"The activities - continues Carbonaro - will end tomorrow with the participation in the Master Class dedicated to gender difference in science. The proposed activities are carried out online and have a marked laboratory imprint: female students and students will be divided into research groups and they will deal with scientific topics flanked by researchers from the University and research bodies ".
A day that becomes a wealth of knowledge. But also a modality that approaches science.
“The activities can be evaluated in a contest that will reward the best works. The topics proposed range from the study of DNA to human tissues, ecosystems and biodiversity, from pollution to cultural heritage, energy, nanoparticles and galaxies, from minerals and fossils to the sciences for sustainable development in the society of the future, passing through programming languages and female mathematics. In addition, debates and testimonials from successful women are discussed ".
The activities are coordinated by professors Paolo Follesa (Biology and Biotechnology), Susanna Salvadori (Natural Sciences), Antonella Rossi (Chemistry), Viviana Fanti (Physics), Paola Piu (Mathematics), Carla Buosi (Geology) and Daniele Riboni (Informatics) . Some activities will take place over several days.
