Two months ago, he underwent a bone marrow transplant to fight myeloid leukemia. A month ago, the most difficult moment: ten days in a coma. Last week, he went out for the first time to watch the national basketball team, of which he is captain. Today, Achille Polonara carried the torch for the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics to Rome.

An exceptional torchbearer for the first stage. Polonara received the torch from Gianmarco Tamberi, a champion high jumper and avid basketball player who practices whenever he can. Like the Olympic flame, Polonara brings hope and has become a spokesperson for the campaign aimed at encouraging donations.

"This opening of the Winter Olympics was truly emotional," said the Dinamo winger, who thanked everyone for the affection he receives every day.
