Italy wins gold medal in the short track mixed relay .

This is the tenth medal for the Italian team in the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, the second in the most precious metal .

The Italian quartet of Pietro Sighel, Thomas Nadalini, Arianna Fontana, and Elisa Confortola (plus Luca Spechanhauser and Chiara Berti, who competed in the first and second rounds) left Canada and Belgium behind after knocking out the favored Netherlands in the semifinals. Reigning champion China, who finished fourth and last in the final, missed out on the podium.

For Arianna Fontana, a true legend of the sport, this is the twelfth Olympic medal of her career . She can already add to that tally in the individual events in the coming days. Fontana herself made the decisive move on China midway through the race, and from there it was no contest.

And upon arrival, there was jubilation at the Milano Ice Skating Arena: tears, hugs, and teammates invading the rink.
