Damaged fields and crops, very high risk of road accidents, environmental upheavals.

These are the consequences of the invasion of wild animals in various areas of Sardinia and in particular in the center of the island.

To the point that agricultural and livestock companies, but also residents of many cities in the Nuoro and Ogliastra areas say they are "exasperated by the damage and continuous risks due to problems linked to wildlife".

The alarm was raised and raised again by Coldiretti Nuoro-Ogliastra, on the occasion of a meeting held at the building of the Province of Nuoro, which was attended by the president and director of the territorial association, Leonardo Salis and Alessandro Serra, together with the administrator extraordinary of the Province, Costantino Tidu, and to the manager of the specific service, Luisella Menne.

The opportunity to urge the institutions to «ask for and find adequate tools to guarantee the payment of compensation for the damage suffered also for producers who risk being excluded».

EXASPERATION – «We are at total exasperation which is leading, even worse, to resignation in the face of the continuous repetition of these events - underlines President Salis - in addition to the damage, a significant environmental imbalance is being created. For this reason too, immediate resources will be needed to restore the damaged companies and implement a precise containment plan."

Director Serra is along the same lines: «The phenomenon is impressive - he points out - wild animals are everywhere and devastate fodder, natural pastures and fences, jeopardizing both farmed animals and the safety of the very people who pass through our streets in recent years, in fact, accidents have doubled."

THE PROVINCE – Luisella Menne also spoke at the meeting and underlined how «a multi-year plan on a provincial basis has been prepared to strategically evaluate the impacts of this phenomenon on the rural world - she says - but also to identify the areas with the most damage. We also asked the Region for a report on the number of road accidents", he concludes.

Costantino Tidu confirmed that «the provincial regulation is ready and has been sent to Ispra for the appropriate opinions and to the Region for the evaluation of the impact - he underlines - we hope to send the Plan to the Region by the end of the year. We are, however, available to put an end to this age-old problem that is progressing exponentially."

COMPENSATIONS – Meanwhile, Coldiretti has relaunched the need for compensation. During the meeting, Tidu himself remarked that "to date we have compensated companies for an amount of 90 thousand euros out of a ceiling of 160 thousand coming from the environmental department and paid in the form of 'de minimis'".

On this point Salis and Serra clarified: «Many producers have already completed the three-year ceiling used for compensation resulting from natural disasters, purchase of reproducers and damage from locusts. For this reason we ask the institutions to find and request alternative tools to guarantee the payment deriving from the damage caused by wild boars to producers who would be excluded".
