A destination for many summers in company , a meeting point for an evening stroll , a swim or a ball game .
But also for a holiday a few steps from the city. Margine Rosso , a seaside resort in the Municipality of Quartu Sant'Elena , overlooks the Golfo degli Angeli and also represents a " borderland " before the (feared, due to its curves) coast road which leads from Cagliari to the more distant Torre delle Stars , Solanas , Villasimius . Its beach boasts fine white sand - tending towards golden -, crystalline water and shallow waters that occasionally host Posidonia, brought by the currents. But the name of the place can often arouse perplexity: what is its origin ?
The most accredited hypothesis has it that it derives from the Sardinian term “margiani arrubiu” , or red fox . It is probable that the autochthonous species of Sardinia, before the building boom of the 60s which populated the area with villas and small blocks of flats, lived in the hills overlooking the coast. Having found an explanation for the color red, the perplexity remains about the word "margiani" which becomes "margine". In this case it would be a simple Italianization of the term , which makes the fox "disappear", leaving room for the "margin". The change would not make one turn up too much because, in the end, the beach "of the red foxes" is also to all intents and purposes an end : the one opposite the much loved Sella del Diavolo .
