The Italian wheelchair basketball team capped off their adventure at the World Championships in Ottawa, Canada, with a historic silver medal. Coach Fabio Castellucci's team was defeated in the final by the pre-match favorites Australia, led by tournament MVP Jeylen Brown, 81-57.
A defeat that doesn't tarnish an adventure that will nevertheless remain in the history of Italian Paralympic sport: a silver medal that represents the first world championship medal for the Italian national team, which started out as an underdog but grew match after match, until establishing itself as the undisputed surprise and major protagonist of the World Championship, winning every match from the qualifying round to the semifinal.
Three athletes from Dinamo Lab Sassari played for Italy: Giulio Maria Papi (the second highest scorer for the Italian team after Carossino), Driss Saaid and Enrico Ghione.
