The drought that is affecting the entire island has alarmed the Nurra reclamation consortium chaired by Gavino Zirattu who in recent days, together with the administrators of the consortium, wanted to meet the professional organizations of the category , Coldiretti, Cia and Confagricoltura, with the presidents Battista Cualbu, Michele Orecchioni and Stefano Taras, to take stock of the situation and put in place the tools to face the current irrigation season in the best possible way .

There are currently about 32 million cubic meters in the Temo basin, 11 million in the Cuga and 4 million in the Bidighinzu . Considering that 32 million cubic meters are bound for drinking water, at the moment there would be around 15 million cubic meters left for agriculture , to which could be added another 2 million cubic meters of waste water from Alghero and 3 million from cross on the Manno.

"On average, 30 million cubic meters are used for each irrigation season, so another 12 million cubic meters would be needed to guarantee the season," says President Zirattu.

« Some works carried out in the past by the reclamation consortia and never used by the Region could have solved the problem of the availability of water resources. I am thinking of the reuse of waste water from Sassari, about 12 million cubic metres, and the interconnection with the Coghinas, plus – continues Gavino Zirattu – further structural works should have been carried out which would have allowed, in the Cuga dam, to increase the capacity of invaded".

The lifting station on the crossroads of Badde Crabolu and Cumone has remained unused for a long time, which would have allowed the recovery of several million cubic meters of water. "By increasing the capacity of the reservoirs and completing the interventions in the dams, - insists Zirattu, who is also the president of Anbi Sardegna - we could increase the surface served and, at the same time, produce electricity, to be self-sufficient".

The president of the Consortium hopes that the possibility of building the dam on the Rio Crabolu between Pozzomaggiore and Suni will be taken into consideration , which would allow a reservoir of around 52 million cubic meters and which would complete the water scheme in north-west Sardinia.
