Roberto Vannacci's march continues, stirring up the center-right. Today, the General nearly touches the President's seat with a new fake video calling for a pardon for Mario Roggero. The risk of further eroding votes for his allies is looming: the Futurists are polling at around 7%, while the Northern League is two points behind, down to 5%. But Futuro Nazionale appears to be challenging Forza Italia as well, estimated at 8%.
Today, Vannacci relaunched the fight for Mario Roggero's pardon, venturing a new fake video, created by artificial intelligence, posted on Instagram. Thus, he challenges the agreement signed by Giorgia Meloni and Elly Schlein to ban deep fakes during the election campaign, precisely to avoid the use of AI products.
This time, the former paratrooper even invokes the Quirinale: in the film—without dialogue but with epic music building—the Roman commander Robertus Vannaccius advances into the home of a fictional Sergio Mattarella. Handing him a parchment, he asks for clemency for the jeweler convicted of killing two robbers and wounding a third. The Latin word "gratia" flares up in the hands of the supposed head of state, who then, using the scales of a blindfolded goddess, opts for clemency.
The finale features Vannaccius freeing a tearful Roggero from his chains and leading him into the midst of the cheering crowd, embraced by his wife and daughters. On the video, politicians remain silent, except for Carlo Calenda, who calls Vannacci a "buffoon" and orders him: "Leave the President of the Republic alone with your vulgar and childish ravings."
