Valeria wasn't even 18 when she came home one evening with a split lip and a black eye. I immediately knew I had to put her on a plane and get her out of Sardinia.

Gianna Orrù, Valeria Marini's mother, tells a dramatic story: both were guests of Monica Setta on the show "Storie al bivio," in an episode airing tomorrow on Rai2. The showgirl "was pregnant" at the time, Gianna adds. "We packed our bags and rushed to the airport, a two-hour wait in Cagliari and then on to Rome. We never returned to Sardinia for years."

"My mother saved me," Valeria confirmed. " I had entered a dark hole, I was the victim of a toxic love, and if my mother hadn't taken me away from Sardinia, I might not even be here to tell the story ."

"I've never liked Valeria's men," Orrù admitted. "The only one I still text is Patrick Baldassarre. Jovanotti? They were young, they worked as waiters in the summer, a youthful flirt. But I don't like him as a singer."

And Vittorio Cecchi Gori? "He was full of problems and they argued often. I remember one day Valeria called me in tears, telling me to run to their house. I was in Sacrofano, I got in the SUV and ran to Rome to the building where she lived with Vittorio. But he, knowing I was coming and I was angry, closed the door behind him and ran away with the dog. He feared me. He knew I wouldn't forgive him for anything. My daughter comes first ."

Mother and daughter had a heated argument a few months ago, again on television, as guests on Mara Venier's "Domenica In" : Gianna, born in 1938 and originally from Cagliari, had returned to the subject of the scam that allegedly cost her over €300,000 and had bitterly commented on her decision to leave her job to follow her daughter into show business . "I loved my job. I really regret leaving it," she confessed. Her daughter's surprise appearance in the studio hadn't brightened their spirits, quite the opposite. Today, however, they seem to be back on the same page again.
