Brightly colored costumes, dances that span continents, and sounds that unite people: Uta, from July 29th to August 2nd, once again welcomes international folklore.
Ballus, the festival that transforms the southern Sardinian town into a large multicultural square, where popular traditions meet and blend into a single, captivating event, returns with its 23rd edition.
The curtain will rise on Tuesday, July 29th with the traditional Welcome Day : at 10 a.m., in the City Council Chamber, the participating groups will exchange greetings and gifts. Then, the energy will explode at 11 a.m. with the first performances in Piazza S'Olivariu.
But starting Thursday, July 31st, when Piazza Santa Maria will host the opening evening hosted by Valentina Caruso: groups from Poland, Lithuania, Paraguay, Panama, Kenya, Brazil and of course Sardinia will perform, with the Pro Loco Folkloric Group of Uta hosting the event.
The following day, Friday 1st August, it is the turn of “Ballus in Festa”, with comedy sketches and traditional music .
Roberto Tangianu will present, while artists such as Nicola Cancedda, Claudia Aru, Karma (Francesca Lai and Davide Guiso), and Angela Micaela Porceddu will take turns on stage, without forgetting local folklore with the Coro S'Arrodia and the Gruppo Folk Sa Nassa.
During the evening, the “Tziu Adamu Billai” Award will be presented to accordionist Totore Chessa, a true legend of traditional Sardinian music.
The grand finale, on Saturday, August 2nd, will be the International Folklore Gala, once again in Piazza Santa Maria.
The opening ceremony and national anthems will kick off an evening event hosted by Giuliano Marongiu, also broadcast live on Videolina. Once again, the entire world will be on stage: from India to Spain, from the Czech Republic to Brazil, all the way to the colors and melodies of authentic Sardinia.
Under the artistic direction of Romano Massa and the patronage of the Sardinia Region, Ballus is a crossroads of cultures, a place of encounter and contamination.
