The Ussi Sardegna 2023 "Davide Astori" Award goes to Claudio Ranieri .
The ceremony will be held on November 21st in the Central Theater of Carbonia . The parents of the former defender who died on March 4th 2018, Giovanna and Renato, will present the award to the rossoblù coach.
Established six months after his tragic death, the award is given to a figure from the world of football who espouses the same values carried forward in his career by Astori.
Ranieri and Astori have several teams in common (Cagliari, Roma and Fiorentina), but also "principles and moral values in an identical vision of romantic and genuine football" , we read in the reasons why the former defender's family identified the Roman coach.
At the Teatro Centrale in Carbonia on November 21st all the stars of Sardinian sport will parade: Filippo Tortu and Dalia Kaddari, Lorenzo Patta and Stefano Oppo, Cagliari Calcio and Dinamo Sassari, the referees Antonio Giua and Giuseppe Collu, the Serie B sports judge Ines Pisano, the president of the Giulini Foundation, Ilaria Nardi, Olbia and Torres, Sarroch and Cus Cagliari volleyball, Catalana Alghero baseball, Raimond Sassari handball, Quattro Mori women's table tennis, Maracalagonis of badminton. The Joseph Vargiu award, dedicated to boxing, goes to Cristian Zara, the new Italian Gallo champion.
