After the extraordinary positive response to blockbusters such as "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer", the new titles of the season continue to encourage notable attendance in US cinemas, marking numbers that certainly do not go unnoticed. According to the most recent financial reports, it would seem in particular that the thirst for horror is spreading with a certain impetus among the public, even compared to the most stainless brands of the action genre.
Upon its debut in theaters, "The Nun 2" projected itself to the top of the US box office, grossing a whopping 32.6 million in 3,728 theaters, with an average per theater of $8,744. The ninth chapter of the cinematic universe of "The Conjuring" marks an excellent result also considering the previous "The Nun", which upon release reached an even more sensational milestone with a whopping 53.8 million dollars.
Based on the data presented, "The Nun 2" - in which we will see a demonic spirit that sows terror by disguising itself as a nun - also beats the third chapter of the "The Equalizer" saga, once again led by Denzel Washington in the role of the lethal avenger Robert McCall, called in this episode to face the Italian mafia. Antoine Fuqua's film would have pocketed the sum of 12.1 million in the second weekend, with an overall gain of 61.9 million. However, according to global takings, the film brings in the remarkable figure of 107.7 million in just two weeks.
Another very fresh release - of a completely different type - is "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3", a new chapter of the sentimental-comic comedy written and directed by Nia Vardalos which ranks in third place, grossing 10 million dollars in 3,650 theaters and an average per theater of $2,739. With John Corbett involved in the project again - by popular request of the fans - we will once again come across the events of the Greek American family of Portokalos, who after the death of the patriarch Gus decides to rediscover their origins by leaving for Greece.
The Indian-produced thriller “Jawan” manages to make its way into fourth position. Telling the breathtaking story of a group of prisoners involved in the hijacking of a subway in Mumbai with a ransom demand, director Atlee's film earned $6 million in 814 theaters upon its release and achieved an average per theater of $7,615.
Irrepressible in its race at the box office even after eight weeks, the mass phenomenon known as "Barbie" stands solidly in fifth position, grabbing a further 5.9 million and exceeding the impressive figure of 620 million overall. The brilliant comedy by Greta Gerwig - starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling - is breaking every possible record both nationally and internationally, ranking not only as the highest grossing film of the year globally but also as the greatest commercial success ever in the history of Warner Bros, surpassing even Todd Phillips' "Joker". No less sensational is the fact that it is the first film directed by a woman to exceed a billion dollars in total revenue. Achievements that leave no room for doubt about the success achieved by this curious title inspired by the iconic Mattel doll.
