Two departments of the University of Cagliari among the best in Italy. And which will go to a special award that assigns extra funds of over 14 million euros for the implementation of development projects, approved by the ministry and intended to enhance scientific studies, educational services and relations with the territory.

In detail, 7 million and 325 thousand euros will go to the electrical and electronic engineering department and 6 million and 750 thousand to the law department.

THE FINANCING – The fund for the Departments of Excellence represents an intervention of strong economic support, introduced by the 2017 budget law and created with the aim of identifying and financing, with a total of 271 million a year, the best 180 departments of state universities .

The chosen structures were identified , among 58 public universities , starting from the list of 350 departments pre-selected by Anvur in May 2022 (for the University of Cagliari, the departments of Mathematics and IT and political and social). The results were then combined with the scores assigned to the projects presented in the second phase, evaluated on the basis of five criteria : internal consistency of the project presented, consistency of the project with the reference context, contribution to knowledge, feasibility and expected impact.

In the previous 2018-2022 session, the University of Cagliari had obtained the highest quality recognition with the Department of Economics and Business Sciences. This year the success is double.

«It is good news of encouragement for the new year - comments the rector Francesco Mola - which enhances the efforts made by the departments in drafting the projects for phase 2 of the path of excellence . Thanks also go to colleagues, to the technical, administrative and librarian staff of the departments of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and to Law, who have allowed the University to place two departments among those financed, and thanks also to the departments of Mathematics and Political and social sciences who have worked hard to present themselves to the competition with high-value projects even if not funded. We continue to grow."
