Thomas Acunzo and Antonello Sorci's Under-18 European Championship ended with a silver medal. In Trento, Italy fell only in the final round to Slovenia, who won 88-71 to claim the continental title.
Among the protagonists of the Italian journey was also the tall Selargino Acunzo, captain of the national team coached by Marco Sodini, while the technical staff included Antonello Sorci from Turrita.
The final tilted in Slovenia's favor from the start, as they built a double-digit lead in the first quarter. Italy attempted to reopen the game at the start of the second half, coming back to within 4 points, but Slovenia responded with a renewed run, led primarily by Stjepanovic, Bojovic, and Joksimovic, and then controlled the final minutes without any particular difficulty.
The last Azzurri player to lose was Cheickh Niang, the game's top scorer with 27 points. Acunzo finished with 7 points and 5 rebounds in 26 minutes of play.
