Sergio Massidda returns to the platform nearly 15 months after his unsuccessful performance at the Paris Olympics, winning gold in the 65-kilogram weightlifting category at the Under-23 Championships. In Durrës, Albania, the 23-year-old from Ghilarza, a member of the Army, won with 299 kg, eleven more than Azerbaijan's Tehran Mammadov and 21 more than Bulgaria's Gabriel Marinov.

Well guided by Italian technical director Sebastiano Corbu, Massidda also won the 134-kilogram snatch and the 165-kilogram clean and jerk, taking a total of three continental titles. It was a great way to get back into the game after an injury that had kept him away from the platform for several months.

Tomorrow it's the turn of another Sardinian, Giampiero Ingrande, in the 71 kg Junior.
