The conversion station of the west section of the Tyrrhenian Link, in Sardinia, will be built in Selargius near the existing electricity station.
This was announced by Terna, the company that manages the national electricity grid, during a digital meeting with the administrations, associations and citizens involved.
The choice on Selargius was made after evaluating and analyzing the comments received during the public consultation launched in September 2021.
The project envisages the demolition and burying of two 150 kV overhead lines whose route now crosses the municipal area and, to a lesser extent, the municipality of Quartucciu. The connection between the conversion station and the landing of the submarine cable at Terra Mala will be made in underground cable. The approximately 30-kilometer route will mainly cover municipal and provincial roads, leaving the environment and landscape unaltered, explains Terna. The station will then be connected to the new marshalling yard, thus allowing insertion into the national transmission network.
The Tyrrhenian Link is an infrastructural work formed by a double submarine cable that connects Sicily with Sardinia and the peninsula. 950 kilometers long and with 1000 MW of power, its objective is to favor, Terna emphasizes, “the development of renewable sources and the reliability of the grid”.
